One of Inside The Film Room’s goals is to provide film critics, entertainment writers and aspiring journalists with an outlet to see their work published. Get to know some of our contributing writers!

Johnny Sobczak

Senior Writer

IMG_1702Johnny Sobczak is an entertainment reporter and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in Media & Journalism and minored in Global Cinema. He started his own film blog in 2017, where he has published film reviews, essays, covered film festivals, awards season and more. He joined Inside the Film Room in August 2019 and was named senior writer in January 2020. He is the co-host of the Inside the Film Room podcast and member of the North Carolina Film Critics Association.

Josh Martin

Josh Martin is a film critic and a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is pursuing a double major in film studies and communication studies. He has self-published a blog, Martin on Movies, since 2011, and it is the home of all his reviews, news reports, and miscellaneous thoughts on the film industry. In addition to his self-published work, Josh is a contributor for online film magazine Film Inquiry, where his reviews have been subsequently featured on Rotten Tomatoes. Josh has also been a member of the North Carolina Film Critics Association since 2018.

Joel Winstead

Joel Winstead is a film critic and a member of the North Carolina Film Critics Association. Joel has worked in film in North Carolina and Minnesota for five years and has developed a passion for the industry. It all started at age six with “Jurassic Park,” and ever since, he has continuously fallen in love with film. Having a family was the end of one kind of film career for Joel, but the start of a new, better kind of film career in North Carolina with his wife, two kids, and two dogs. Joel’s work can also be found on his own website, Winstead’s Reviews.

Favorite Movies: “Jurassic Park,” “Jaws,” “The Village,” “Wait Until Dark,” “Memories of Murder”
