Bonus Features: ‘300’ gets 4K UHD release on Oct. 6

We all know the film “300.”
The graphic novel by Frank Miller (“Sin City”) assaults the screen with the blood, thunder and its ferocious visual style, faithfully recreated in an intense blend of live-action and CGI animation. Retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, “300” depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army. Experience history at sword-point and moviemaking with a cutting edge.
The attention to technical detail is such a delight to watch. Director Zack Snyder loves slow-mo and brilliant red spurts of blood, and “300” is a truly great, genre-defining action film packed to the brim with both.
Snyder has a very unique directing style and at the time “300” took advantage of the cutting-edge digital and CGI technology available in 2006. Because of the technology employed in the film, though, this 4K release will show you in full detailed glory that the tech of the mid-2000s isn’t necessarily as stunning as it once looked. Despite all the “noise” you can see in the darker tones, there are still plenty of gorgeous scenes to enjoy. This film was given a specific look and the 4K transfer absolutely enhances the experience and ultimately provides a much better viewing experience than previous transfers, Blu-ray notwithstanding.
The 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc of “300” will also feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to allow audio to be placed and moved anywhere in the room, including overhead. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, a Dolby Atmos enabled AV receiver and additional speakers are required, or a Dolby Atmos enabled soundbar. Dolby Atmos soundtracks are also fully backwards compatible with traditional audio configuration and legacy home entertainment equipment.
The Blu-Ray disc of “300” will include more than three hours of previously released special features, including commentary from Zack Snyder.
