First Look: Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt Netflix superhero thriller
The summer of the Netflix action flick continues.
With theaters around the world still shut down, original action films from the streaming giant like “Extraction” and “The Old Guard” have been the closest things we’ve gotten to summer blockbusters this year. Now, the trend is set to roll on when “Project Power” hits the service on August 14.
When a mysterious new drug hits the streets of New Orleans, users are granted unique superpowers for a limited timespan. The only catch is that you never know what the powers will be until you take the pill. While some users get to experience invisibility or super strength, others are doomed to a more deadly fate. As a result of the newfound powers, crime rises in the city, leaving the unlikely trio of a local cop, a drug dealer and a former soldier to take down the group responsible for creating the danger.
“Project Power” stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dominique Fishback and Jamie Foxx, and also features performances by Machine Gun Kelly and Courtney B. Vance. The film is co-directed by longtime duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (“Nerve,” “Paranormal Activity 3”) and written by Mattson Tomlin, the co-writer on Matt Reeves’ upcoming take on the Caped Crusader, “The Batman.”
“Project Power” debuts exclusively on Netflix August 14.
