New “Tenet” trailer teases mind-boggling time travel

Christopher Nolan unveiled a new trailer for his upcoming action blockbuster, “Tenet,” on Thursday during a special event on the video game Fortnite.

The highly-anticipated international espionage thriller stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki, and also features Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, with Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.

Not much is known about the film’s plot yet, although it certainly involves time travel – or at least some sort time bending which they’re calling “inversion.” The new trailer revealed a few more specifics, like the fact that the protagonists are attempting to prevent World War III, and that Branagh is playing a Russian national.

Despite a resume filled with epics, “Tenet” looks to be Nolan’s most ambitious and revolutionary project to date – and that’s saying something for a director with titles like like The Dark Knight trilogy, “Inception,” “Interstellar” and “Dunkirk” to his name.

Unlike nearly every film in 2020, “Tenet” has stayed firmly planted by its July 17 release date, while others have opted to reschedule due to COVID-19, although things may be changing soon. Rather than tagging the end of the trailer with the July 17 date, it simply closed with “Coming to theaters.” However, the film’s social media pages still advertise the July 17 release.

Nolan has long been an advocate of the theatrical experience, leading to a mutual respect between the director and higher ups at theater chains, with both parties hoping his new film can jumpstart the moviegoing industry post-coronavirus.
