Trailer: Charlize Theron is back in action in Netflix’s “The Old Guard”

While coronavirus may be slowing down action blockbusters on the big screen, Netflix has stepped up to fill the void. The streaming service is following up April’s “Extraction” with another action-packed adventure, “The Old Guard.”

Based on the graphic novel series by Greg Rucka, “The Old Guard” follows a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die. Led by the warrior Andy (Charlize Theron), the group has fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. Now, the team’s extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, leaving Andy and the newest recruit, Nile (KiKi Layne), to eliminate the threat of those seeking to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.

Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (“Love & Basketball,” “Beyond the Lights”), Netflix calls “The Old Guard” a “gritty, grounded, action-packed story that shows living forever is harder than it looks.”

Starring Theron and Layne, “The Old Guard” also features Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, Van Veronica Ngo, with Matthias Schoenaerts and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

“The Old Guard” premieres exclusively on Netflix July 10, 2020.
